![]() Here commits in master will be synced to the branch you created. If you want to use my GitHub repository for testing the things I’ve shown in this article, then run the following command to clone it. Create branch when master branch is checked out. If you want, you can use your own Git repository as well. I will do different branching operation in this repository later. In this section, I will clone one of my GitHub repository to my computer. #Create new branch from master git how toIn the next sections of this article below, I am going to show you how to create Git branches, use Git branches and remove Git branches. It is automatically created and used when you initialize a new Git repository. Note that, the master branch is the default branch in Git. If you don’t like it, you can discard/remove it anytime. If you like it, you can merge it with the master branch. Well, you can create a new Git branch on your project, then start testing your ideas on the new branch. But, you’re not sure whether it would work or not. All of a sudden, you have a great idea that you want to test out. Let’s say, you’re working on your project. In this article, I am going to talk about a very important feature of Git, Git branches. #Create new branch from master git softwareIt is very popular among almost every type of software developers and system administrators for managing source codes. If we do git branch -vv again, we can see that jsChanges is now mapped to origin jsChanges.Git is one of the best version control system out there. To begin, we will need to create a separate directory and then initialize Git on it: 1 mkdir learn-git 2 cd learn-git 3 git init. We can do -set-upstream or we can do -u, and then origin jsChanges. We have to push while setting the upstream to the origin jsChanges, just like this is origin master. When we do, we get a fatal error, because if we do git branch -vv, we don't have jsChanges linked to any remote branch. If we do a git log oneline, then we have "Adds Hello World" on the jsChanges branch, which has diverged from the master branch. ![]() ![]() We'll commit that and we'll say, "Adds Hello World." Then, let's save that and do a git status. We'll make a function called helloWorld again, and we can say alert i. Master is linked to a remote, but jsChanges is just a local branch for now. If we do git branch -vv, for verbose mode, then we can see the current commit that we're on for each branch, and we can see the remote that we're on for each branch. We can also do git branch to see all of our branches. This will create a new branch mirroring the commits on the currently active branch: git branch new-branch git branch master new-branch As a brief aside, keep in mind that behind the scenes Git does not actually create a new set of commits to represent the new branch. Once created you can then use git checkout newfeaturebranch to switch to that branch. To create a new branch, we can use the git branch new-branch command. When you want to start a new feature, you create a new branch off main (master) using git branch newfeaturebranch. If we do a git status, we can see that we're on the branch jsChanges. git branch command can be used to create a new branch. ![]() That's what we'll do to make a new branch. We can do git branch and then our branch name like jsChanges or we can do git checkout -b jsChanges. Instructor: We can create a new branch in two different ways. ![]()
